Being someone’s officiant or minister is a highly personal experience. If you choose to work with me, it is likely that you will be sharing a lot of information about yourself or a loved one that you do not normally share with someone who you are not related to or already intimately involved with in some manner. While I do not wish to impose any of my beliefs or world views on those who opt to work with me, in the spirit of fairness, I feel that it is only just that I reveal a bit about myself, my training, and some of what is most precious to me.
I am a graduate of One Spirit Interfaith Seminary (OSIS), one of the exceptional training programs offered by One Spirit Learning Alliance . I fortuitously stumbled upon OSIS in my quest to change careers paths (I am an attorney by first trade) and become a celebrant. In doing so I realized that I had found a program that would not only train me outstandingly well as an officiant, but expand that role to one of Interfaith minister, thereby helping to fulfill a life-long call to be of service to others and a desire to grow spiritually.
I firmly believe that human rights, environmental protection and greater social and economic equality are interrelated and want for a better world for all beings. Therefore, I strive to live a life according to Gandhi’s teaching, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Part of the way this teaching manifests in my life is through veganism.
In addition to the work that I do as an Officiant and in my Brooklyn community, I have recently taken on a new life defining role – that of mother! My life partner, Christian, and I welcomed our beautiful baby boy, Nash, into the world in 2010.
I have lived in New York City for over a decade and at this point feel justified in referring to myself as a New Yorker. Prior to my move to Manhattan in 2001, I lived in Boston, L.A., Florence, and Washington D.C. I am blessed with a wonderful network of amazing people who I am honored to call friends and a supportive family, many of whom still reside only a few states away where I grew up in Massachusetts.
